General Manager - Dr Astrid Wootton, PhD (Univ.Melb)
Astrid is the General Manager of the Design Centre complex. She also manages and curates the permanent collection and the exhibitions program at the Centre. Since her appointment in 2003 she has coordinated two national exhibition tours, curated sixteen exhibitions and managed an additional 32 exhibitions by guest curators.
Astrid's research interests encompass seventeenth-century Italian painting, nineteenth-century porcelains and contemporary textiles and wood design.
Astrid represents the Tasmania on the national peak body Australian Craft and Design Centres (formerly ACDO), is Secretary of Museums Australia (Tasmania) and sits on the boards of Brand Tasmania, Fine Timber Tasmania and Festivale Inc. She is Deputy Chairman of the Visual Arts Committee, University of Tasmania, and was recently appointed to the Women's Council of Tasmania, an advisory committee to the Premier.
